Good sportsmanship is viewed by the Elkridge Youth Organization as a commitment to fair play, ethical behavior, and integrity. In perception and practice, sportsmanship is defined as those qualities, which are characterized by generosity and genuine concern for others. Individuals, regardless of their role in activities, are expected to be aware of their influence on the behavior of others and model good sportsmanship.
Expected behavior of parents, coaches and spectators include respecting decisions made by officials; being an exemplary role model by positively supporting teams; respecting fans, coaches, officials and participants. Unacceptable behavior includes booing or heckling an official’s decision; criticizing officials in any way; displays of temper with an official’s call; yelling or making statements that antagonize opponents; blaming loss of game on officials, coaches, or participants and the use of profanity or displays of anger that draw attention from the game.
Any discussion between a coach/parent/official/player should be discussed in a non-threatening manner, or the discussion should be immediately terminated to be continued with the commissioner. |
